SMAPA-NSA Partnership Accepting Families with Children Ages 0-2 for Music & Movement Dance Class

Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts (SMAPA) in partnership with Newark School for the Arts (NSA) is accepting registrations for the “Music and Movement” class for families with children ages 0-2.

The class emphasizes early dance, movement, instruments, and fun interaction between caregivers and their infants, all under the instruction of a NSA dance teacher with early childhood training.

Classes are held at the SMAPA Studio (14 S Park St, Montclair, NJ) on Wednesdays at 12 p.m.

Registration is available at www.smapa.org.

In September 2022, Larry Tamburri, Executive Director of the Newark School of the Arts (NSA) and Sharron Miller, Founder/Director of Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts (SMAPA), announced a joint partnership to share programming and teaching artists across their respective locations in Newark and Montclair.

Miller is the new Chair of NSA’s Dance Department and hopes to bring the same level of artistic excellence to the NSA Dance Division as exists in Montclair.

“Our association with Sharron and SMAPA will signify that we are offering quality dance instruction. An added benefit to this partnership is that we will be able to offer some programs at SMAPA in Montclair beginning with Early Childhood Music,” said Larry Tamburri, NSA Executive Director.

Miller looks forward to generating renewed interest for dance at NSA among children, teens and adults through new program offerings like Dance with Me (ages 2-3 with caregiver), Afro-Caribbean (ages 10-adult) and Contemporary (teens). “Dance should be available to students at all stages of life,” says Miller.

The Turrell Fund supports both of these incredible institutions in their partnership and provision of high quality arts and early childhood programming for NJ children.
