Our Funding Philosophy is Changing...
The Turrell Fund receives many compelling and important requests for funding in each of its two grant application cycles annually. We sincerely hope that applicants and past grantees will understand that limited resources prevent us from funding as many deserving requests as we receive. It is also the case that, for those requests we do fund, the grant amount is often well less than that requested. In recent years and going forward, we sometimes find it necessary to ‘skip’ a year, for grantees who have grown to expect funding on the anniversary of their most recent prior grant.
None of these measures should be construed as a comment on the value of the work you propose to us. On the contrary, we are simply redoubling our efforts to ensure that the Turrell Fund remains a force for good in the decades to come.
In addition, and as we have written, a greater share of our grant funds are finding their way into policy and advocacy grant-making. The results of such investments are not immediate…but are necessary if we are to ‘change the game’ to favor all those who struggle earnestly on behalf of the young, and at risk.
Of course, any of us here will be happy to speak with any of you, at any time. Having clarified out funding outlook, we do encourage you to apply, if your work fits with the Vision and Mission of the fund.
Please accept our deep and ongoing appreciation and respect for the work you do, and the difference you are making.
